Fa Razavi Iran, b. 1996

Overview

Working in large-scale figurative compositions, Razavi explores the body as a shifting terrain shaped by history, displacement, and the forces that seek to define it. Their figures resist fixed meaning, moving through scenes where tension, memory, and refusal intertwine.

Raised in a highly restrictive environment before leaving Iran as a teenager, Razavi’s work draws on the complexities of migration, the weight of inherited belief systems, and the ongoing struggle for self-determination. These paintings imagine spaces where bodies reclaim ground, move beyond imposed borders, and assert the possibility of new forms of presence.
