Hayoun’s painting is a scathing commentary on the 2024 American election that saw Donald Trump come to power for a second time. As if on a garishly lit stage, Joe Biden and Trump form a dancing couple in the guise of a goat and a pig. The weak leadership of the Biden administration and its unblinking support of Israel, which Harris also endorsed, is posited as the ideal partner for Trump’s chaotic fascism. Meanwhile the Arab American citizen either chooses to look the other way or use its vote to support the cycle of US violence against the Arab world. As Hayoun states, the work skewers “a broken system…absent of any meaningful gestures to find a viable third way.”
